SongStage: A Live Music Series and our Distinguished Artist Alumni List
Catherine Cummings Theatre
Live Space Entertainment and Cazenovia
College are excited to present a very special and unique live music
series at the Catherine Cummings Theater on Linklaen Street in beautiful downtown Cazenovia, NY entitled "SongStage".
The series presents national touring acts with loyal
followings from decades of touring with the occasional radio
hit, or TV/film soundtrack contribution. And frequently, the
best talent in Central New York is featured in the coveted "opening
slot". Audiences can expect great music of all different styles
and genres, with some surprises.
"Although we are starting with some acoustic shows, stay tuned, we
will be producing some eclectic concerts, from R&B to children's
programs and everything in between" says Tom Honan, Executive Producer
of Live Space Entertainment. "The series will have a community
feel to them," Honan says, "in fact we have partnered with Caz Cares, a
local food pantry. We are encouraging fans to bring canned goods
and non-perishable foods to all of the shows."
"The SongStage series will be a wonderful opportunity for Catherine
Cummings Theatre to be a major venue for national, regional and local
artists," says Colleen Prossner, theatre director. "We see great
benefits for Cazenovia College and for Central New York," she said.
The series kicked off on Saturday, March 12th with Paul
Barrere and Fred Tackett the two guitarists from Little Feat ("Dixie
Chicken") and local roots'n'rags guitarist Colin Aberdeen.
The following week on March 18th, SongStage presented John Ford
Coley of the legendary '70s duo England Dan and John Ford Coley ("I'd
really Love to See You Tonight," "Nights are Forever Without You") with
special guest Paul Davie. On May 20th, SongStage presented
the ever popular Livingston Taylor, with local songsmith Dusty Pas'cal
as the the opener. June 2011 brought in one of The Faces ("Stay
With Me", "I'm Losing You") legendary rock keyboardist Ian McLagan
with his duo partner (and Syracuse 'native face') Jon Notarthomas.

If there is one common element to Redbone's diverse music it's his mastery
of his acoustic guitar. It's easy to get lost in his stage exploits
(which often gravitate between vaudeville and performance art) and
overlook what a truly fine player he is-fingerpicking with a ragtime
bounce or jumping between chords with the grace of a card shark, making
it look so effortless it can often be deceiving.
